About the University:

École Polytechnique is a French public higher education and research institution in Palaiseau, a suburb located south of Paris. It is one of the leading prestigious French 'Grandes Écoles', renowned for its engineering programme. The school was founded in 1794 by mathematician Gaspard Monge during the French Revolution, becoming a military academy under Napoleon I in 1804. Although Polytechnique is no longer a military academy, it is still supervised by the French ministry of Defence. Initially located in the Latin Quarter of central Paris, its main facilities were moved in 1976 to Palaiseau on the Saclay Plateau, in the southwest of Paris.
